Feeding your baby is a great solution, but sometimes you need to do something else. How do you solve a mile-long to-do list if you keep holding the bottle? So, you might also want to know — when exactly do babies start holding their own bottles?

How early will it happen?

Most babies don’t develop the skills to supply the best feeding bottle until they are six months old, although some babies reach this stage earlier than others. Some people will need a lot of time to figure out how to do it. They may not be ready until they are nine or even ten months old. But that doesn’t mean your baby isn’t smart or growing slowly. Babies develop at different rates. Try not to compare your baby with your friend’s baby, who may hold his bottle before your little one. As moms, our children depend on us to love and support their learning, no matter how fast or slow it is!

Isn’t holding the bottle a problem?

Don’t worry if your baby has no interest in trying to hold a bottle when many of his peers have reached this age. I remember, like my first child, starting to worry whenever my child didn’t reach a milestone by the magical date mentioned in the baby book.

Especially my children don’t like to hold a bottle. He just wanted me to hold him and the bottle and do all the work. I was happy to do so, but I started to get a little paranoid when other mothers commented on the fact that my children had not yet held their bottles.

The only thing that madders I am that I notice that all his other developmental milestones seem to be on track. I learned quickly to stop above other moms’ comparisons bother me because the baby milestone reached the speed of the intelligent degree or future success has nothing to do with them.

All my early fears proved to be unfounded. Eventually, he showed an interest in holding the bottle, and I began to miss the days when he made me do all the work.

You can help your baby try it out

To help your baby learn how to feed himself, place one or both hands on the bottle during feeding to help them get used to the position.

Once your baby starts trying to do this, they may be overwhelmed for more than a few seconds. This is normal, and you can help them by gently nudging them back and making sure their hand is still on the side of the Baby Drinking Bottle.

You still need supervision

Once they have mastered this, you still want to be in the same room with your baby while he feeds himself, and under no circumstances should your baby sleep in a crib with a bottle. Babies who sleep on pacifiers may get cavities, and it’s never too early to think about dental hygiene. In addition, a leaky bottle may make the bed wet and leave a mess for you to clean up later.

Eventually, it will happen

Just when your baby never seems to take the initiative and start holding his own bottle, something happens, and you wonder why you spend so much time thinking about it.

In the meantime, please be patient and try to help them by:

Keep their hand on the bottle even if you are still holding it.

After placing their hands properly, they let them go from time to time.
